Breaking: Otu Dissolves UniCross Governing Council, Appoints New VC

 Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has announced the immediate dissolution of the Governing Council of the University of Cross River State (UniCross). 


The decision was conveyed in a press statement issued on January 24, 2025, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Nsa Gill.


In the wake of the dissolution, the Governor approved the appointment of Professor Francisca Bassey as the new Acting Vice Chancellor of UniCross, replacing Professor David Ogar, who was appointed in September 2024. Dr. Fidelis Ugbo has also been named the Pro-Chancellor of the university.


Joining the newly reconstituted Governing Council are Hon. Francis Ettah and Professor Susan Etim. The Governor assured the public that the full list of council members would be released soon. All appointments are effective immediately.


The new leadership is tasked with addressing challenges and fostering a peaceful academic environment within the university. Governor Otu emphasized the state government’s commitment to the welfare of staff and students, as well as the maintenance of high teaching and learning standards at UniCross.


Outgoing Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor David Ogar, has been directed to hand over to Professor Francisca Bassey without delay. The Governor urged the new Governing Council to ensure maximum cooperation in steering the institution toward excellence.
