Accident Claims 4 Lives of Catholic Seminarians Near Obudu Ranch Resort, 9 Others Injured

A devastating accident at the Ikwette community, near the bottom hill of Obudu Ranch Resort, has left the many in mourning.

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, a vehicle carrying thirteen individuals, primarily Catholic seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Church Diocese, crashed, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others.

Reports say the accident occurred as a result of brake failure.

The group, led by a Reverend Father, had just completed a tour of the Obudu Ranch Resort when the incident occurred outside the resort premises.

Emergency services, including Nigerian Army personnel stationed at the resort, responded swiftly to provide assistance.

Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims.” He added that the state government is working to contact the victims’ families and offer support during this difficult time.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to safety, noting that a review of safety measures at the Ranch Resort is underway, urging visitors to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to adhere to safety guidelines when traveling to and from the resort.
