Two Survive Near-Fatal Crash After EFCC Chase in Ogoja

Two young men narrowly escaped death on Friday morning when their car crashed during a high-speed chase by suspected EFCC operatives along Abakpa/Igoli Road in Ogoja, Cross River State.

The incident, which took place around 10:45 a.m., involved 27-year-old Bassey Precious, who was driving a BMW with his 24-year-old friend, Caleb Fidelis Okem, as a passenger.

According to police sources, cited by Zagazola Makama, a white Toyota Hiace bus carrying armed men, believed to be EFCC operatives wielding AK-47 rifles, tried to intercept the BMW. One of the operatives reportedly jumped into the car and grappled with Bassey for control.

In the chaos, Bassey fought back, refusing to stop. The struggle caused the BMW to veer off, flip over, and crash. The suspected operatives fled the scene, leaving the two injured men behind.

Bassey and Caleb were rushed to General Hospital in Ogoja, where they’re now receiving treatment and showing signs of recovery.

The Cross River Police Command has confirmed the incident and is hunting for the operatives involved to face investigation and possible punishment.

The EFCC has yet to comment on the incident.
